Everything you need to know…

What time is check in and check out?

Check in is from 4pm and check out is at 10.30am.

However if you are feeling like you would like a little more time at Samsú, for an additional fee you can choose to check in early at 2pm, and check out by 12:30pm. This can be bought at the time of booking, or added later to your booking by emailing bookings@samsu.ie.

Can I drive right up to the cabin?

The cabins are set away from the road, to help fully immerse you in nature. Designated parking is available 300m from your cabin.

At all our sites we try to limit our intervention as much as possible, so while there are paths to your cabin, if there has been heavy rainfall, we recommend you pack some wellies or walking boots for accessing your cabin (and exploring the local surroundings afterwards).

What is the minimum night stay?

There is a two-night minimum stay at all our cabins, and most weekends have a three-night minimum.  Reason being is that the science shows it takes 48-72 hours for our minds to fully disconnect from our devices. To feel the full effects of time spent in nature, 72 hours is the sweet spot. Aside from the science, we also think you need at least a couple of nights to properly switch off and experience Samsú.

Each month, we open up two-night weekend stays.  We’ll keep you updated on social media when these are released.

If the dates you want are unavailable, you can sign up to our waitlist by clicking on your chosen dates on the bookings page.

What sort of cooking facilities are there?

Each cabin has two cooking hobs, and you will find cast iron pots and pans that can also be used on the fit pit outside should you wish to cook outdoors. The kitchen is stocked with locally roasted coffee beans, teas, olive oil, salt and pepper.

There is a 60L fridge in each cabin that also has a mini freezer section.

Do I need to pay for my full stay upfront?

It depends on when your stay is. If your stay is less than 45 days away then the booking would need to be paid in full. If the booking is further away than this, then you can pay a 25% deposit to secure your Samsú escape and the remainder of the payment will be taken closer to your stay.

Is there electricity and hot water?

Of course – Samsú cabins are off-grid but built to be comfortable. All electrical items are powered by solar and you have a hot shower with organic and delicious smelling shampoo and body wash.

We don’t include traditional plug sockets, only USB charging points so you can still charge any devices before checking out.

What if I need to get hold of someone?

Each Samsú cabin has a Lightphone inside.

A Lightphone is a stripped back version of a mobile phone with a few essential tools. You could say it is the Samsú of phones – everything you need and nothing you don’t. We have placed a lightphone in each cabin that has been preloaded with music, podcasts, and a phone number to contact us on if you need anything.

You can also share the lightphone number with family and friends ahead of your stay so they can contact you if they need to.

Do I actually have to lock my phone away?

We do recommend you lock your phone away to get the most out of your stay at Samsú, but this is totally self-policed. If you want to take your phone out the box, we will never know.

That being said, we really do recommend enjoying your whole stay with no distractions, no annoying emails, and no social media doom scrolling. Your mind and body will thank you.

What should I bring with me?

A stay at Samsú should be as simple as possible and so we have included all of the essentials you should need for an analogue stay in nature. That being said, here are a few things we recommend you add to your packing list.

What to bring:

  • Toothbrush & toothpaste. Preferably an eco-friendly version.
  • Slippers or thick socks to wear inside especially in the winter months for extra cosiness.
  • Matches or a lighter. There should be some in the cabin but you know, just in case.
  • Food & drinks – make sure you pack enough groceries for your stay. Don’t worry about olive oil, salt, pepper, tea and coffee. We’ve got that covered.
  • If you plan to arrive after sunset, pack a torch to find your way to the cabin.
  • Your favourite book. We have also curated a selection for you in the cabin that we think you might enjoy.
  • A pair of hiking boots and, depending on the season, maybe wellies for long walks in the forest.
  • Some sandals or flipflops to make your way to the outdoor bathtub (you will have to walk 20 metres through a little forest to get there.
  • some BBQ coal if you wish to dine outdoors (the fire pit has a grill that sits on top).

What not to bring:

  • Bedding. Cosy pillows, duvet, and throw are all provided in the cabin. There are also two hot water bottles too!
  • Towels. There are two small ones and two big ones ready for you.
  • Shampoo and body gel. Samsú partners with local producers to provide eco friendly toiletries.
  • Hairdryer – As we are totally off-grid and powered by solar, our cabins are not built for power intensive appliances like hair dryers or straighteners which is why we ask you to leave them at home.
  • Tea, coffee, olive oil, salt and pepper – These are all provided in the cabin.

Is there phone service?

Although we would love your stay at Samsú to be spent with your phone in the lockbox, we understand that this is not always possible. In some locations the phone reception is very good, in others it is less so. Please check the individual cabin you have booked for precise information about reception there.
