The Samsú “How to”

05.10.2024  •  2 min read

So how does it work?

Going analogue simply means a period of time where  you intentionally take a break from your digital devices such as phones, laptops and really anything else with a screen. Regular time in nature doing a digital detox is proven to help with our mental wellbeing, creativity, and stress levels.

It’s 5pm – you have just shut your laptop, jumped into the nearest car or bus and you have made it to your Samsú location.

What happens next?

Inside the cabin you will find a box to place your devices in. We recommend doing this as soon as you arrive so you can get the full Samsú experience. The next 48-72 hours are then truly free for you to go analogue in nature and disconnect.

Just incase you do run into trouble, or just fancy some human contact you will find the Samsú Lightphone on the table waiting for you. You can use this to make outgoing calls and texts to loved ones or to contact us if there is an issue. It has also been loaded up with music and podcasts that we think you might enjoy.

You may feel a little bewildered at what to do next, so we have outlined some ideas below for you.

1. Light the fire

You will find kindling, matches, and enough firewood to keep you nice and toasty for the duration of your stay. Staring at the fire while sipping hot tea or coffee is also highly encouraged.

2. Read a Book

We have carefully curated a set of books that we think might enjoy, and have made an effort to work with small Irish publications where possible. Each book has been chosen to spark your creativity in some way.

3. See how long you can lie in for

When was the last time you let yourself rest for as long as you needed? Without an alarm jolting you awake or a meeting to rush to. Sleep is crucial for regulating mood, appetite and brain function – and it’s unlimited here at Samsú.

4. Capture some film photos

We have left a film camera and a roll of film in each cabin so you can still create some memories even without your phone.

5. Explore the surrounding Landscape

Each of our cabins are placed in locations with only nature as your neighbour. Take some time to explore, maybe swim, maybe forage some goodies for dinner. You will find a foraging guide in our manual.

6. Cook over fire or in the Cabin

When was the last time you cooked a meal with no distractions? And paid attention to each step along the way. Now is your chance

There are also pages to write in, games to play with, and an entire manual on how to get the most out of going analogue in nature.
